About NDA

NDA(National Defence Academy) is situated at Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world. At NDA, the cadets of all three forces trained together, i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force. NDA produced several Ashoka Chakra recipients, Param Vir Chakra, and also 27 service Chiefs to date.

NDA offers three years full-time undergraduate program. There is a choice of two streams of study for candidates. They offer a Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science) and Arts stream (History, Economics, Political Science, Geography, and Languages). 

In both streams, there are three categories of academic studies.

 

Foundation Course

This one is the mandatory course including Military Studies (Military History, Military Geography, Weapons systems, Armaments) and General Studies (Geopolitics, Human Rights, Laws of Armed Conflict and Environmental Sciences).

 

Compulsory Course

In this course, all the candidates must take these classes in all subjects ( English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, History, Political Science, Economics and Geograph) except foreign languages (Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian). Then candidates have the choice to take advanced classes depending on their stream.

 

Optional Course

Subjects should be given to the candidates depending on their chosen stream.                                                             

Training

Candidates can join the NDA after they completed their 10+2 examination. They provide three years graduation (BA, B.Sc. or BCs) degree of Jawahar Lal University. On-campus, they are trained to deal with every situation in life. Life in NDA is all about learning discipline and courage to face difficulties while serving the motherland. Apart from this, they have also trained their outdoor skills (Drill, PT, Games, etc.).

After completion of the three years of training at the NDA campus, candidates have to choose from three defence services (i.e. Army, Navy, and Air Force) depend on their chosen stream.
